Tania Schafer: Field of Dreaming
Bridging the research gap between institutions and remote communities
Tania Schafer (nee Bostock), is an Australian Aboriginal woman with connection to the Mununjali people (father) and Bundjalung people (mother).
Drawing on her 29 years of experience as an Aboriginal librarian, Tania will discuss her work dealing with Indigenous collections and her research into family history and connecting communities to collections.
Tania has worked at the John Oxley Queensland Historical Library on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections and client services since 1992.
She will discuss resources held by libraries and how the current trend of online platforms, such as Facebook, Flickr and organisational Internet sites are bridging the gap between researchers and organisations.
She will also provide information about avenues for volunteers to assist with this activity.
A Q&A session will follow Tania’s presentation.

She created the first State Library Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Internet pages, presented the material for the current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collection pages, and added material to be accessed via the library catalogue.
“I want to leave a legacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers through online access. It is the tool to bridge the gap between institutions, people and remote communities” – Tania Schafer
