Vulcana Women’s Circus is inviting women of all ages to participate in creating a new piece of community theatre, Small Change.

Small Change will share stories about the rich history of women in the workplace, from the battles for equal pay for equal work, access to the broadest range of work opportunities, issues of motherhood and the career work/life balance, the glass ceiling, to women’s unpaid work including the largely hidden history of stolen wages for Indigenous workers. Vulcana is very keen to invite Indigenous women to participate in this project to share their skills and experience and share their stories with other women in a supportive and creative environment.

All experience is welcome. You don’t need to have performance or theatre experience to participate. And there will be many ways to participate if you are interested in sharing stories and meeting with other women, but not necessarily interested in being on stage.

On Sunday 13 July, 2 – 3.30pm, for Black History Month, Colleen Wall will be facilitating a Talking Circle at Kuril Dhagun, State Library, on Stories of Stolen Wages as an important part of the project. If you are interested in exchanging your thoughts, sharing stories, learning more about this hidden history, or exploring ways to let more people know about it please let us know or just come along.

Small Change will provide an avenue for telling this important story to other people in the project and to the new audiences that come to see the performance with the support of Indigenous Consultant Colleen Wall. The public season of Small Change will be from 30 October – 1 November, at the Plaza, Brisbane Powerhouse.

The project get-togethers will nearly all be on Sunday afternoons from 29 June at the Stores Studio, Brisbane Powerhouse, 119 Lamington St, New Farm
