Respected Aboriginal Elder Uncle Bill Buchanan, former Reconciliation Queensland Co-Chair, will share his personal reconciliation journey
and vision for the future of the movement, via Zoom on Sunday 16 May 2021 from 3pm. Uncle Bill Buchanan is a descendant of the Kooma/Gwamu First Nation Peoples of South West Queensland. He is a serving Aboriginal Elder/Respected Person of the Murri Courts in Queensland, and an Ambassador of the National Indigenous Cancer Network (NICaN). National Sorry Day Ceremony, Kalinga Park - Wed, 26 May

Noonga Reconciliation Group invites you to join them for a day of remembrance and reflection about the impact of policies leading to the Stolen Generations and the current policies affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Noonga will also celebrate the resilience of First Nations people and their commitment to truth telling and sharing of cultural knowledge. The Benarrawa Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Solidarity Group invites you to attend the 23rd Anniversary of the Annual Sorry Day Ceremony at Sherwood Arboretum. When: 7.00am , Wednesday 26 May 2021 at the “Journey Home” Plaque, by the river, Sherwood Arboretum—Joseph St entrance), Followed by a shared breakfast. Please feel free to bring a plate to share at the breakfast post-event and flowers or branches for laying on the plaque. Food items should be easily served with tongs or cutlery. Preferably native flowers or plants.

NRW 2021 Film Screenings - Brisbane Square Library

Brisbane Square Library will be showing three film screenings this month, during National Reconciliation Week. The first of these films, Occupation: Native, screens on 27 May and aims to engage all Australians in a national conversation about Australian history and what has been missing from our history books. Tania Schafer: Field of Dreaming - Bridging the Research Gap between Institutions and Remote Communities

Catch up on our recent RQI Speaker Series presentations on YouTube. In this video, Aboriginal Librarian, Tania Schafer discusses her work dealing with Indigenous collections and her research into family history and connecting communities to collections.
Tania has worked at the John Oxley Queensland Historical Library on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections and client services since 1992. She discusses resources held by libraries and how the current trend of online platforms, such as Facebook, Flickr and organisational Internet sites are bridging the gap between researchers and organisations. She also provides information about avenues for volunteers to assist with this activity. This event was hosted by the Brisbane Metropolitan Sub-Committee. Sunday, 14 March 2021.
