Our organisation is proud to announce the appointment of four new board members who bring a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership in reconciliation and Indigenous advocacy. Their diverse backgrounds and deep commitment to advancing Indigenous rights and community engagement will strengthen our mission and broaden our impact.

This post introduces Duncan Kerslake, Charmaine Foley, Jim Davis, and Gavin Scott, highlighting their unique contributions and the expertise they bring to our board.

Charmaine Foley’s Commitment to Grassroots Reconciliation

Charmaine Foley has dedicated over 30 years to reconciliation efforts, particularly in Queensland. Her leadership in coordinating the reconciliation process for seven years and organising the landmark 2000 bridge walk demonstrates her ability to mobilise communities around shared goals. Charmaine continues to support Aboriginal groups and Path to Treaty initiatives through both pro bono and paid roles, organising events that foster dialogue and understanding across South East and wider Queensland.

Her extensive network across regions and strong skills in event organisation, media, and consultation make her a vital asset. Charmaine’s passion for enhancing grassroots and regional community engagement ensures that voices from all levels of society are heard and valued in the reconciliation journey.

Jim Davis’s Leadership in Indigenous Empowerment

Jim Davis is a Meriam man from Zenadth Kes and a respected First Nations leader with nearly 30 years of experience in land management, policy development, and Indigenous empowerment. His work focuses on creating pathways toward genuine reconciliation by elevating the strength, diversity, and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Jim’s dedication to ensuring First Nations voices shape a fairer future is reflected in his efforts to showcase Indigenous leadership across various platforms. His deep understanding of Indigenous issues and commitment to empowerment will guide our organisation in making meaningful progress toward reconciliation.

Gavin Scott’s Expertise in Native Title and Indigenous Affairs

Gavin Scott, a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, leads the Australian Native Title and Indigenous Affairs practice. As a non-Indigenous ally with over 25 years of experience, Gavin has represented Traditional Owner groups in securing economic benefits and advised industries on respectful engagement practices.

He has championed his firm’s Reconciliation Action Plan, mentoring Indigenous lawyers and expanding pro bono support. Gavin brings valuable expertise in native title law, governance, and a broad network spanning corporate and non-profit sectors. His role on the Australian Red Cross QLD Advisory Board further reflects his commitment to community service and Indigenous advocacy.

Duncan Kerslake’s Role and Contributions

Duncan Kerslake PSM is a Palawa man with over two decades of experience dedicated to advancing opportunities for First Nations peoples. As Director of the First Nations Strategy Unit at the Department of Transport and Main Roads, he leads structural change to embed Indigenous perspectives in government.

His career includes leading the Advance Queensland Deadly Innovation Strategy and securing significant economic outcomes during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In 2023, he was awarded the Public Service Medal for his profound contributions to Indigenous business and economic empowerment, reflecting his commitment to active, systemic reconciliation.

Building a Stronger Future Together

The addition of these four board members marks a significant step forward for our organisation. Their combined experience in community engagement, Indigenous leadership, legal expertise, and policy development will help us deepen our impact and foster stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.

We look forward to working closely with Charmaine, Jim, Gavin, and Duncan as we continue to support reconciliation efforts and promote Indigenous voices in all aspects of our work. Their leadership will inspire new initiatives and strengthen existing programs that aim to build understanding, respect, and equity.

Our members and supporters can expect to see fresh ideas and renewed energy as we move forward with these new board members. Together, we will continue to create meaningful change and support the journey toward a reconciled and inclusive society.
