Today marks a significant milestone for Reconciliation Queensland as we proudly share our new Strategic Direction for 2025-2027. This plan is the culmination of deep reflection and consultation, and it charts an ambitious and focused course for our work over the next three years.

It is our blueprint for helping to build a more just and informed Queensland—a state that truly acknowledges our shared history, celebrates First Peoples, and embraces genuine reconciliation.

Our core mission is to drive meaningful change and foster powerful alliances to create a more inclusive and reconciled Queensland. Guided by our fundamental values of Truth, Respect, Courage, and Integrity, we have structured our work around four key priorities that will define our focus moving forward.

Priority 1: Advocacy and Leadership

To achieve meaningful progress, we must be a courageous and strategic voice for change. This priority centres on cultivating leadership and effectively influencing policies and public conversations that advance reconciliation.

A key part of this is ensuring the path to truth and healing is guided by the aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

  • We will facilitate regional yarning circles to listen to communities and carry their perspectives forward to government partners.

  • We are also committed to actively participating in policy development at both the state and national levels and taking a leadership role in national reconciliation forums.

Priority 2: Creating Opportunity

Reconciliation is about creating tangible pathways that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations to thrive. We will focus on developing real opportunities in areas like education, health, justice, and self-determination.

A major new initiative will be the development of a state-funded grants program, which we will administer, to direct resources to community organisations making a direct impact on Closing the Gap targets.

  • We will also build partnerships with businesses and institutions to establish valuable internship and vacation work placements.

  • To foster a global perspective, we plan to facilitate an international cross-cultural exchange each year for First Nations leaders.

Priority 3: Building Strategic Partnerships

We have always known that this journey cannot be walked alone. Lasting change is built on strong, collaborative relationships grounded in mutual respect and shared goals.

Our plan includes a dedicated strategy for engaging with state and local governments, positioning our organisation as a key advisor on reconciliation for major public events, including the 2032 Olympics.

  • We will also forge new alliances within the business community to drive corporate-led reconciliation initiatives and secure vital program funding.

  • Furthermore, we will enhance our role as a central connector for organisations developing their Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and deepen our collaboration with Queensland's multicultural communities.

Priority 4: Education and Engagement

At the heart of reconciliation is a shared understanding of our history and contemporary issues from the perspective of First Nations peoples. Our final priority focuses on raising community awareness and fostering a sense of unity and inclusion.

  • We will continue to support reconciliation in schools and educational spaces, with a goal to increase participation by 20% by 2027.

  • We will also deliver tailored workshops for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to build advocacy and leadership skills.

Our engagement with members will be strengthened through regular communication and events that promote practical allyship, and we will continue to host a high-profile calendar of public events—including National Reconciliation Week and the Reconciliation Queensland Awards—to bring our communities together.
